Cost of living reality check -Fairwood CDP (King County)

Hi all, The median home value here is around $658,000, which is pretty steep. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Anyone in a similar situation? Cheers. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Baltimore about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..
