Working in Fairwood -salaries realistic?

First post here. I work in government and Median household income is $191,319, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $695,300, which is pretty steep. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 5 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..
