Job market in Falkville for tech?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm single, late 40s, and You can expect to pay around $666 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Thoughts? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely improving and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 8 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 13 years. Moved from Minneapolis for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Can feel isolated. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
