Hey, We have two kids and Household incomes average around $53,933 in Fall River. Poverty rate is 18.8%, which is higher than I expected. Rent is about $1,086/month for a decent place. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good.
Pros:
- Great weather
- Growing food scene
- Lots of new development
Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Lack of diversity
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Far from major airports
Thoughts? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 5 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Portland about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Springfield for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The public transit scene is decent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Houston about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
