Cost of living reality check -Fall River

Hey everyone, Crime rate is something to consider -Fall River sits at 867.9 per 100K. Poverty rate is 18.8%, which is higher than I expected. Household incomes average around $53,933 in Fall River. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Strong sense of community
- Active local events

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Is this normal for Fall River? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 6 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Chicago about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much developing but now it's average.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Portland about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
