Military spouse here. It's a a smaller city city with about 32,467 people. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $713,000, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,675/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Fallbrook? The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Came here for family and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The school system is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- The weather scene is decent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..
