Freelancing from Fanwood -experience?

Longtime lurker here, Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider -Fanwood sits at 25.9 per 100K. With a population of 7,714, Fanwood is a small town. Rent is about $2,368/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 0.7%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $176,667, which feels pretty solid for the area. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. Came here for retirement and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The safety is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much growing but now it's tough.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is tough in most areas.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 3 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 3 years. Moved from LA for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is solid - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Not very walkable outside downtown. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..
