The median home value here is around $233,900, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 45--F, so bundle up in winter. Homes are going for about $233,900 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,041/month for a decent place. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Let me know your thoughts. Cheers. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Highland for 9 years. Moved from Miami for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
finance is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Far from beaches/mountains. And cultural scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The pet-friendliness is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Austin about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..
