Considering Farmers Branch vs Tampa -help me decide
Hey folks, The median home value here is around $322,000, which seems about average. Rent is about $1,820/month for a decent place. With a population of 36,254, Farmers Branch is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Worth the trade-offs? The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is average in most areas.

I've lived in Highland for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Four distinct seasons
- The safety scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The cultural scene is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
