Anyone else feel this way? I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 10,336 people. Poverty rate is 21.2%, which is higher than I expected. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What do you all think?

I've lived in Oak Park for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The pet-friendliness scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
