Job hunting in Farmington -tips?

Hello, We have two kids and Rent is about $1,223/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,223 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Boston it's hit or miss.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
