Best and worst neighborhoods in Farmington Hills

Hey everyone, I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a smaller city city with about 83,316 people. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $333,200, which seems about average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Far from major airports
Does this match your experience? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

I've lived in North for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The food scene scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 6 years. Moved from LA for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is average - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Far from beaches/mountains. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
