Not sure if this has been asked before, but The median home value here is around $333,200, which seems about average.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much pricey but now it's solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 54, moved here 9 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Westside and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The outdoor recreation situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Seattle about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Houston about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Old Town for 8 years. Moved from Phoenix for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
finance is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is tough - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
