So, I'm a teacher here and Rent is about $1,475/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Nashville about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..
