Hi all, I've been here for 18 years and Poverty rate is 4.3%, which is pretty low. With a population of 83,316, Farmington Hills is a smaller city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Would love some local perspective. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- The dating scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

Background: I'm a nurse, 28, moved here 4 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Oak Park and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited public transit options
3. The food scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.
