Should I move to Farmington Hills or stay in Orlando?

Hey everyone, Been living here since 2017. It's a a smaller city city with about 83,316 people. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $101,863, which feels pretty solid for the area. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 29, moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Old Town and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The dating scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in healthcare here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is excellent. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
