I'm a teacher here and Homes are going for about $225,400 on average. Rent is about $993/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like seafood.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Maple Ridge area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 6 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely improving and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Westside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 35, moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in South and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Can feel isolated
3. The cultural scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Uptown for 6 years. Moved from Minneapolis for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is decent - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited high-paying job options. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Hope this helps!.
