I'm a teacher here and Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from San Francisco about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is decent.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.
