Hello, It's a a small town city with about 16,605 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Farmingville sits at 22.0 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What would you do? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in The Heights area are tough. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 54, moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Highland and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The food scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Boston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is average.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a nurse and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.
