Cost of living reality check -Farmingville

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Farmingville sits at 22.0 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I've lived in West for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:

- Friendly community, easy to meet people

- Low crime in most neighborhoods

- The healthcare scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:

- Nightlife is limited

- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
