Best kept secrets of Fayette, MO

Anyone else feel this way? I've been here for 5 years and Homes are going for about $128,700 on average. The unemployment rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $855 for rent here. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I wrong here? Thanks! The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely excellent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
