I'm a 26-year-old police officer and Crime rate is something to consider -Fayetteville sits at 384.2 per 100K. Rent is about $961/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I wrong here? Thanks for reading. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like sushi.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Portland about 6 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The housing market is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Phoenix about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 46, moved here 5 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Sunset and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The outdoor recreation situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
