Is Federal Way still affordable?

Hello, My family moved here when I was a kid. Poverty rate is 9.8%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $82,144 in Federal Way. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Has anyone dealt with this? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Raleigh about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Old Town) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
