Moving to Federal Way -what should I know?

First post here. Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $82,144, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 99,232 people. You can expect to pay around $1,738 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Is this normal for Federal Way? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Came here for family and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The weather is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Westside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
