Thinking about relocating to Federal Way from Memphis

Am I wrong here? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 7 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I work in healthcare here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Portland about 6 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (East) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a contractor and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is average and there's always something going on.
