So, I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 5.8%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $211,700, which is actually reasonable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What do you all think? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 7 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 40, moved here 14 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The safety situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in legal here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is improving. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The school system scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Maple Ridge area are challenging. Kids love it here.
