OK so Average temperature is around 42--F, so bundle up in winter. What do you all think?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Miami about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Charlotte it's underrated.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Eastside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 5 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
