What surprised you most about Ferndale?

Hey, Military spouse here. With a population of 19,156, Ferndale is a small town. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Let me know your thoughts. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in East for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:

- Growing food and restaurant scene

- Nice parks and green spaces

- The nightlife scene is challenging

The downsides:

- Can feel isolated

- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
