Hey everyone, Born and raised here. With a population of 23,631, Fernley is a small town. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I wrong here? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Fairview for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is decent
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The cultural scene scene is average
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (East) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is underrated in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much pricey but now it's average.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
