Alright, Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,351/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $184,200 on average. Household incomes average around $78,494 in Finneytown. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Korean places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to LA it's hit or miss.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in retail. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the Lakewood side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
