Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Riverside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 4 years. Moved from Raleigh for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Rising rent and home prices. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The housing market is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely improving and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (East) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.
