Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 12.3%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $295,500, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $295,500 on average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Midtown area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Atlanta about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in East for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The nightlife scene is solid
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Tampa about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (East) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
