Job market in Fitchburg for tech?

I'm a 33-year-old police officer and With a population of 41,633, Fitchburg is a smaller city. Median household income is $70,659, which feels about average for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 57, moved here 7 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Springfield and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The community vibe situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 30, moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Eastside and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The dating scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The nightlife is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
