Curious what people think. Any help is appreciated. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Greenfield area are underrated. Kids love it here.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great Southern places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Denver about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
