Housing in Five Forks compared to Pittsburgh

Alright, I relocated for work and It's a a small town city with about 19,093 people. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. With a population of 19,093, Five Forks is a small town. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What do you all think? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. I've been in Maple Ridge for 4 years. Moved from Dallas for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Rising rent and home prices. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 55, moved here 1 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Westside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The housing market situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
