I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $1,555 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Is this normal for Flagstaff? The weather takes some getting used to.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 57, moved here 7 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Downtown and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The safety situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**

2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community

1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The school system situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Pittsburgh it's better than expected.
