Moving to Flagstaff -what should I know?

First post here. With a population of 76,333, Flagstaff is a smaller city. You can expect to pay around $1,555 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Downtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
