Why I chose Flagstaff over bigger cities

Longtime lurker here, Rent is about $1,555/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 76,333 people. Median household income is $68,041, which feels about average for the area. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Chain restaurants dominate
What are your go-to spots? Thanks in advance! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 28, moved here 4 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Sunset and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The traffic situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
