Born and raised here. With a population of 10,418, Flat Rock is a small town. You can expect to pay around $1,006 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Thoughts? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Midtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- The dating scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
