Just moved here 9 months ago and The median home value here is around $132,700, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 1,298, Fletcher is a small town. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Let me know your thoughts. Appreciate any input. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Highland for 8 years. Moved from Baltimore for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Chain restaurants dominate. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (South) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 36, moved here 9 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in West and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The weather situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for remote workers. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Atlanta about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a accountant who relocated here from New York about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Old Town for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The outdoor recreation scene is improving
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Italian.
No regrets on my end..
