Most overrated things about Flint

Hey everyone, You can expect to pay around $859 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Anyone in a similar situation? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much manageable but now it's decent.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 46, moved here 7 years ago from Houston. I've lived in West and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mexican places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 12 years. Moved from Seattle for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is solid - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Far from beaches/mountains. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor recreation is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
