Anyone else feel this way? It's a a smaller city city with about 80,835 people. Median household income is $36,194, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 80,835, Flint is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $47,600 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.
Pros:
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
Would love some local perspective. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Eastside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is solid
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 12 years. Moved from Austin for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Homeless population growing downtown. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Seattle it's excellent.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely hit or miss and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 9 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
