Should I move to Florence or stay in Portland?

I'm originally from Salt Lake City and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,172/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Any advice would be great. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is underrated in most areas.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great sushi places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Baltimore about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
