The median home value here is around $514,100, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 68--F, so the weather is moderate. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I overthinking this? Appreciate any input. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Boston about 3 years ago. The main reasons were weather and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
