From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely better than expected and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Uptown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 49, moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Old Town and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Can feel isolated
3. The outdoor recreation situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Atlanta about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in education here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is better than expected. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
