What surprised you most about Folsom?

Anyone else feel this way? We have two kids and Median household income is $139,263, which feels pretty solid for the area. The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $2,279 for rent here. Household incomes average around $139,263 in Folsom. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Is this normal for Folsom? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2020 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely decent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (South) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Riverside for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The job market scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..
