Hey folks, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $161,300 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 5 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is decent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Not very walkable outside downtown. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The walkability is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'm a marketing manager and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- The pet-friendliness scene is decent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
