Hey, Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider -Fond du Lac sits at 312.0 per 100K. Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $905 for rent here. Rent is about $905/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 5 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The public transit scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
