Pros and cons of Fond du Lac after 7 years

Hey, Median household income is $61,620, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $161,300 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Fond du Lac sits at 312.0 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What would you do? The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The traffic is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much competitive but now it's surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 5 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
