Moving from Omaha to Foothill Farms next month

Longtime lurker here, I'm a college student here and Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 37,332, Foothill Farms is a smaller city. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Should I be concerned?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Downtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

it depends on the neighborhood

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 5 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mexican places. I love the pace of life here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Chicago it's decent.

I've lived in South for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- The traffic scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..
